This itinerary in North Sumatra will certainly leave you intoxicated by nature! Jungle, volcanoes, waterfalls, lakes, and oceans intertwine along this route, inviting you to an active encounter with the guardians of the forest: the Sumatran orangutans.
Climb the peaks of Mount Sibayak before plunging into the world of Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world and the heart of Batak culture. A natural and cultural immersion to be enjoyed solo, as a couple, or with family, crowned by a stay on the peaceful island of Weh.

Day 1 Selamat Datang! Welcome to Sumatra!
Arrival in Medan, one of Indonesia’s largest cities and the biggest on Sumatra.
Depending on your arrival time, visit the Sultan’s Palace, the Grand Mosque, and the Tjong A Fie Mansion before driving to Bukit Lawang, the gateway to Gunung Leuser National Park.Overnight in Bukit Lawang.

Day 2 Bukit Lawang: Gunung Leuser National Park & Orangutans
The exploration begins!
Two-day jungle trek in search of orangutans. You may also encounter Thomas leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, gibbons, black gibbons, and other tropical wildlife.
Camp installation in the late afternoon and night under the stars.5–6 hours of walking

Note: Access to certain areas requires rope descents provided along the trees. -
Day 3 Orangutans, tubing & wild thrills
Continue trekking toward the Bohorok River. Enjoy a refreshing tubing activity through lush jungle back to Bohorok village.

Day 4 Cycling & 360° views of Bukit Lawang
Morning mountain bike ride through villages, rice fields, and rubber plantations.
Meet locals and discover traditional production of palm sugar, tofu, and bamboo housing materials.
Cooking class with a local family in Bukit Lawang.
Afternoon drive to Berastagi.2–3 hours cycling

Day 5 Ascent of Mount Sibayak Volcano
Early departure for the ascent of active Mount Sibayak (2,181 m).
A gradual 3–4 hour hike through jungle and rocky terrain to the crater lake.
Descent via another path and relaxation in hot springs.
Afternoon visit of Berastagi, Lumbini Pagoda, and the traditional market.3–4 hours hiking, ±644 m elevation

Day 6 Karo Village, Waterfall & Samosir Island
Departure from Berastagi to Linga, a traditional Karo Batak village with houses over 250 years old.
Stop at Sipisopiso Waterfall (120 m high) with optional 1-hour hike (over 615 steps).
Lunch overlooking Lake Toba, then ferry crossing to Samosir Island and transfer to Tuktuk village.3.5 hours driving, 50 minutes ferry

Day 7 Samosir, the heart of Batak culture
Explore Samosir Island, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Visit Siallagan village, famous for its totem statues, sarcophagi, and Batak houses.
Possible traditional dance performance.
Visit Tomok village, local market, and King Sidabutar’s tombs.

Overnight at Samosir Villas -
Day 8 Farewell Samosir
Morning at leisure before ferry crossing back to Tigaras and drive to Medan.
50 minutes ferry, 4 hours drive

Overnight in Medan – Le Polonia Hotel (Deluxe Superior Room) -
Days 9 to 11 Pulau Weh, the volcanic island
Morning flight from Medan to Aceh.
Visit Banda Aceh surroundings, then speedboat to Pulau Weh, known for its mountains and volcanoes.
Free days to enjoy beaches, tranquility, and rich marine life.1h15 flight, 1h boat

Note: Modest dress is recommended due to strong Muslim cultural influence; bikinis are discouraged in public areas. -
Day 12 Return to the mainland
Boat back to Banda Aceh, short city visit, then flight to Medan.

- Cancellation received more than 30 days prior to the departure date: a sum of €50 per person will be retained
- Cancellation received 30 to 21 days before the departure date: your deposit, 30% of the total trip price will be retained
- Cancellation received 20 to 14 days before the departure date: 50% of the total trip price will be retained
- Cancellation received 13 to 7 days before the departure date: 75% of the total trip price will be retained
- Cancellation received less than 7 days before the departure date: 100% of the total trip price will be retained
- Fixed airfares: if your airline ticket was issued in advance, often done to avoid significant surcharges, you will be charged 100% of any non-refundable fees if you wish to change or cancel your flight plan.
- Fixed in-country costs: early charges for firm bookings will be charged if you cancel or modify your trip.
